FIBRE OPTIC CABLING

Providing greater bandwidth over longer distances than high grade copper cables (Cat 6 or Cat 7), fibre optic cabling offers: secure, interference-free backbone or fibre to desk connectivity for demanding applications.

Having invested in expert engineers and Fluke Networks testing equipment, every ‘Westcon Services’ fibre cabling installation is guaranteed to meet IEEE 802.3ae Gigabit Ethernet requirements. Westcon Services are able to install, terminate and test fibre optic cables in every environment throughout the UK. Our fibre optic cabling services include:

SINGLE MODE - OS1 AND OS2 INSTALLATION

With a higher transmission rate and providing fifty times more distance than multi-mode. Single mode fibre cable is ideally suited to providing 10 Gigabit Ethernet over extended distances.

MULTI-MODE - OM3, OM4 AND OM5 INSTALLATION

More cost effective than single mode, multi-mode cabling is typically used for Gigabit and 10 Gigabit installations over distances up to 500 metres.

FUJIKURA FUSION SPLICING

Westcon Services can offer fusion splicing termination of fibre optic cables using the latest Fujikura fusion splicing technology. Fusion splicing virtually eliminates losses between fibre joints ensuring that a splice and the area surrounding it are nearly as strong as the fibre itself.

TERMINATION & TESTING ONLY

Westcon Services engineers can terminate and test a fibre optic cable installed by others. Cable will be terminated with the latest Fusion Splicing equipment and tested with Fluke testing equipment to ensure a fully functional fibre optic cable.

FTTX – Fibre to the home (FTTH)
Fibre to the premises (FTTP)

FTTP stands for fibre to the premises, and essentially refers to fibre broadband that is wired directly to the home instead of a cabinet that services the area (which is referred to as FTTC, or fibre to the cabinet).

FTTP, unlike FTTC, uses all fibre optic cables, making it the fastest type of fibre you can get. In fact, fibre optic allows for up to 1GBps (1000Mbps), though there aren’t any current UK providers that offer speeds that high. With the combination of fibre optic cables and the fact that they go directly to your home, FTTP is certainly the preferred option for those who are serious about their broadband use.

Unfortunately, Westcon Services are unable to provide you with a new FTTP circuit. For this you will need to contact an Internet Service Provider (such as BT or Virgin Media). We can however modify or extend an existing FTTP circuit (relocate Router and connections) by installing new cabling of the same specification and quality. Please enquire for further details.
